Here are notes that I took with attending the ChurchPlanters.com Conference of Session #1 with Shawn Lovejoy. It is really late, but I thought there were some really good nuggets in the talk, so I am passing them along.
How to lead in financial crisis…
How to lead in an economy that is upside down.
Are we focused more on the offerings or on how blessed we are by God??
Proverbs 22:3 & 27:12 – it is in the bible twice – says the same thing.
Prudent – crafty and skillful
What does it mean to be prudent for you and your team??
“I believe that God is looking for prudent leaders in regards to how we handle our money!”
Be a pastor of prudence and faith…not just faith.
God places a high value on wisdom and faith.
Any time money is brought up prudence is mentioned…
God won’t bless us with more than we can handle…parable of the talents.
Prudent leaders have lots of faith, but they know that they have to balance faith with wisdom
Luke 14:28 – Don’t begin without counting the cost…
Sometimes what we call faith is just foolishness in God’s eyes…
Faith is not presuming on the blessing of God, but it trusting in the sovereignty of God…
What is the balance of living on the edge and not walking in faith….living on the edge by God’s wisdom is walking in faith!!
You are responsible for what you do have, not what you don’t have!
Prudent leadership means having people in our church that we seek wise counsel from…who know our community and knows our church!
Some people were in a church who couldn’t make a move without the church elder’s passing gas!
Ask for wisdom, but don’t give away leadership.
Balance faith and wisdom!!
Proverbs 12:15, “…wise leaders listen to others.”
Prudent leadership says that we have a budget and we are going to life by it!!
Proverbs 21:20, “…a prudent leaders values all he has.”
In 15 days, there will be over 2500 leaders from all over the country that will converge on to the Anderson Campus of NewSpring Church. We will see senior pastors, worship leaders, student pastors, volunteers, paid staff, unpaid staff, etc. all come to learn what in the world has been happening at NewSpring Church. It is crazy to think that this conference is SOLD OUT!! Let me tell you, our Senior Pastor Perry Noble, is STOKED!! He will bring the heat…
We will have our new student building open and that place is the jam! You will need to stop by and check it out, by the way, that will be one of the venues that we use, so if you want a feel for how we do multi-site…that will be the ticket!!

I am filled with so much anticipation…right now I am sitting on my couch with the Presidential Debate on in the background, my wife is asleep on our oversized chair. This weekend was HUGE with over 600 people proclaiming Jesus as Lord. There has been so much going on in my life in the last 48 hours. So many things that I can’t really reveal yet, but some will be revealed soon. Each one of those things make me very EXCITED!!!
Tomorrow, I am leaving to attend Catalyst. I am going to be attending with many of my NewSpring teammates, but I am going to be spending an extensive amount of time with Jake Beaty. He has been my boss for the past 6 months, but friend for over 7-8 years. I am looking forward to the many challenging conversations that we will be having over the next 3 days.
I am also looking forward to the many speakers that we will hear at Catalyst. Andy Stanley, Craig Groeschel, Seth Godin, Steven Furtick, Jim Collins, Matt Chandler, Dave Ramsey, and many others. It is my prayer that I will be able to listen without any distractions so that I may be strectched, challenged, and encouraged!!
So I sit hear a little giddy, waiting for this conference to begin and get going!!!!

Thursday was an AMAZING day! So many things happened, that almost seems like a huge blur, but here are some of hte highlights of my day:
The volunteers of NewSpring knocked it out of the park. We had close to 450 volunteers there to serve the over 2000 church leaders attending Unleash. They did an amazing job of making everyone feel welcome, cared for, and important!
Got to reconnect with some old and new friends from Florence.

The Student Ministry Breakout was SLAMMED in the first time slot. It was good being able to talk about some of the practical things that help shape our ministry.
Chic-Fil-a for lunch is ALWAYS a good thing, but even better when you can network with a bunch of cool people
Second Breakout was just as slammed. It was good doing the breakout twice because the questions we received from the group were different. I always love getting questions because it makes you stretch and be able to flesh out every part of your ministry!
