How much was that bill??

College football teams that get invited to bowl games are usually treated very well.  They always get gifts, food allowance, travel allowance, and typically a great welcome dinner.  Here is the amount of food that the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes ate at the welcome dinner for the Outback Bowl:

  • 750 lbs of steak,
  • 750 lbs of chicken,
  • 900 lbs of ribs,
  • 700 lbs of Bleu Cheese Wedge Salad,
  • 200 lbs of green beans,
  • 950 lbs of Bloomin Onions,
  • 1300 lbs of cheese cake,
  • 85 gallons of barbecue sauce and
  • 60 cases of soda and water.

That would be a total of 5,500 pounds of food!!  That is a lot of food and I wonder how much that bill would be?  Any guesses??

Hope given in a Football Game

Do yourself a favor and read this article from ESPN.  Love how a coach used an opportunity to teach his players and fans that everyone is important!!  The coach went out on a limb and seems to have made a HUGE impact on the players from the opposing team!  Good job Coach!

A Rant On…Certain People

Let me say, I am not a Clemson Football fan, I cheer every Saturday for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.  There is a LONG history of hate and disdain to each other’s respective programs.  I will say that in my time in the upstate, I have come to respect the program that Clemson is building through the type of athletes they recruit and are recruiting.

With that said, here are some of my thoughts on the current situation…

There are so many people that are VERY happen about the changes that are happening around Clemson University Football.  Tommy Bowden resigned as the coach yesterday.  Coach Bowden felt it was in the BEST interest of the program that he step aside.  First of all, do you know how much courage and character that takes?  I am assuming most of you do not because of the horrible comments you are making about this man.

Has Tommy Bowden made mistakes?  YES!  Has he done some things that he wish he could change? I am SURE of that! BUT here is the thing that you need to understand…YOU have done the same!

Take a moment to SHUT your mouth and respect the man that did bring in some amazing talent, took you to many bowls, and brought the program a lot of national attention.

Also, on a FINAL note: Let Coach Dabo Swinney coach!  The players respect him and are behind him!  He is the INTERIM, he has not signed a freaking 10 year contract, he is coming in a bad situation to work his butt off to bring the season to a close on a high note.  So sit back, cheer loud and enjoy the ride.  If you support the guy, you may just be surprised!!

Expert or Moron?

Question from on College Gameday: “Should California be ranked #2 in the country?”

Answer: “First of all Cal, beat the leader of the SEC East right now, Tennessee….”

SEC East Ranking

1. South Carolina: 3-1, 5-1
2. Florida : 2-2 , 4-2
3. Georgia : 2-2 , 4-2
4. Kentucky : 1-1, 5-1
5. Tennessee : 1-1, 3-2
6. Vanderbilt : 1-2 , 3-2

From the rankings I have seen the SEC East leader is University of South Carolina? I love how you can be the #5 team in the conference and be LEADING the conference. I wonder if I am looking at the wrong standings or what? Has there been a change that I did not hear about about? Or has there been a change in the way the standings are read? Someone, please help me figure this one out!!

#7 in the Country!

gamecocks logo

#11 South Carolina Gamecocks beat the #8 Kentucky Wildcats.

AP Polls now rank South Carolina #7. Our highest ranking since 1984, with our only loss coming to the #1 team in the land (LSU).

WOW! I am loving it!

There is a lot of talk about the Gamecocks, but one comment that blew me away was from Perry Noble, who said: “Clemson did lose and I was sad…and, I HATE to say this–BUT…I think the Gamecocks may be for real. Props to USC…they are playing great football. (And once again…I HATE SAYING THAT!)

Mad props to Perry for saying (writing) that! For anyone who knows him, he does not like my beloved Gamecocks because he is a HUGE Tigers fan!

Here is the AP Top 10:

  1. LSU
  2. California
  3. Ohio State
  4. Boston College
  5. South Florida
  6. Oklahoma
  7. SOUTH CAROLINA
  8. West Virgina
  9. Oregon
  10. Southern California

The real K.O.D… & Leaderboard!

I have just been informed by Steven over at gamecocksportsforum.com, that Lou Holtz has picked the Gamecocks to beat LSU tomorrow! NOOOO!!! Please Lou don’t do that!

Guys, play hard, play smart, play with heart! Everything else will take care of itself!

Go Gamecocks!

Also…we have had a little game going on in the office at NewSpring, where some of us have tried to predict the wins and losses for both, the Gamecocks and the Tigers. For each correct pick you get a point. It has been pretty interesting…I will post the leaderboard here after this weekend’s games are completed!
