Students in Wilmington, NC will be impacted

Yesterday, Brad and I got to start the morning off by hanging out with Dave Holt from Lifepoint Church in Wilmington, NC. It was an awesome time to just hang out with him and he asked a bunch of questions.  The worst part of the meeting was that we only got to spend an hour with him.  I was looking forward to asking him some questions and hear about some of the things that are happening in their neck of the woods.  He told me he was going to be back for UNLEASH in March, so maybe I will be able to catch up with him during that time! Let me know Dave!
I always enjoy getting to hang out with other student ministry peeps from other churches.  Each time I get asked a question, it ALWAYS challenges me.  It challenges me to fully know what I believe in, what I think, and why we do what we do.

After hanging out with Dave, I can say a couple of things:

  • Dave has a heart for JESUS,
  • Dave has a heart for students,
  • Dave has a heart for the local church,
  • Students of Wilmington, NC will be impacted,
  • Lifepoint has a great guy leading their student ministry,
  • Lifepoint is going to grow and they will grow fast!

Dave, thanks for the opportunity to hang out with you and get to know you!  Look forward to hanging out with you in March and some other times in the future!

New Year…New Series

As begin 2008, we are also beginning a new series in our Student Ministry here at NewSpring. We are doing a series called, “EPIC.” We are going to take 7 weeks and walk through the story of the Bible. Of course, this will not cover everything, but we are going to cover 7 themes/stories, and just tell God’s Story.

Our goal in this series is to get the students to go back to the Bible and read it for themselves. So many times, we are guilty of spoon feeding them that they never learn to eat themselves. Through this we believe that students will develop a hunger for God’s Word and because of that hunger, they will discover so much more than we could ever feed them. They can discover that they were “created on purpose, with a purpose, and for a purpose.” I cannot even imagine what would happen if students were able to grasp that and discover what their purpose in life is! WOW! My prayer is that our students begin the journey to discover that truth and it continues through out their life!!!

Anyways, here is a link to our series opener: EPIC OPENER

Look forward to telling you about what will happen!

360

We started a new series last night at our Student Ministry Service called 360 and we are going to be looking at some topics (prayer, quiet time, parents, relationships, etc) in a 360 view. Not looking at what we just think about the topic, but what are others saying. Should be a lot of fun! The videos we created were done to be a springboard for the message and done in a tv show format, so keep that in mind as you watch the different clips.

Here is the link to check out our first teaser for 360.

Change is good…

Alright, I am in the middle of a crazy stretch of a speaking schedule (10 things in 10 or 11 days). Tonight and Sunday are the two things that I am JACKED up about. Tonight I am speaking for FUSE, the high school ministry of NewSpring Church, and I have not spoken at FUSE in a looooong time! Actually, the last time that I spoke for FUSE, I spoke on the issue of sex. Needless to say, it was tense, fun, and amazing all rolled into one message. Anyways, I am really excited because this will be the last service for FUSE. On Sunday, I am speaking for IGNITE, our middle school ministry, and this will be our last service. I am excited about the message God has laid on my hear to share with the Middle School and High School students that attend NewSpring.

I know some of you maybe asking why are both of these ministries having their last meeting all in the same week? What is the deal with this and what in the world is going on? Is NewSpring no longer doing middle school ministry on one night and high school ministry on another night? Well, the answer to that is YES! NewSpring is no longer doing IGNITE, middle school ministry and FUSE, high school ministry. We are going to be changing things up a little, well actually…a whole lot.

Beginning on October 31st, we will be…….

meeting together (6th grade-12th grade) as a UNITED Student Ministry, on the same night, at the same place, at the same time. Over the past couple of months, we have really felt hat God is leading us to try something different. There are many reasons for our change.

Here are a couple of the quick reason why we are making a change:

  • The current facility we are in, the 2Seven, is at max capacity and we are not going to be in our new building for another year. Currently, we are out of room to grow and if you are out of room to grow, you will NOT continue to grow. Solution: We are going to move to the main auditorium on the NewSpring Campus. (This will give us over 2,000 seats to grow into!)
  • We believe that we will better stewards of the resources God has given us.  We will also be able to work/excel in our individual strengths and passions as a ministry staff.
  • Most importantly, God is leading us in this direction.

I think that this move and change will be amazing stretch of ministry for our students and our church.  We are looking forward to this and I cannot wait to see what God is going to do!

With that said, most of my post will be focusing more on student ministry as a whole instead of being middle school specific.  I am looking forward to journaling and blogging about our experiences.  I got to run to prepare for FUSE tonight!  Peace!!

PULSE 07 @ NewSpring

PULSE 07 was amazing! Last night, was a HUGE highlight in all of my days of ministry. It was so much fun to see students piled into the atrium waiting to get into the auditorium for the concert. The band rocked it out, Adrian did a great job, the energy was through the roof, and volunteers did an awesome job working with the students. In my humble opinion it was a HUGE success.

Here is the quick breakdown of the night:

  • Roughly 1345 students attended
  • 270 Salvations
  • Numerous students committing to live the sold out life for Jesus
  • Over 155 volunteers ministering to our students

I will post more later, but wanted to give a quick update. Be sure to jump on over to Tony’s Blog to see some pics of PULSE 07.

Check Your Pulse…

I am so psyched about tomorrow! PULSE is going to be through the roof. I really feel that we are going to the auditorium will be full of teenagers from the Anderson area. We were able to tell so many students about PULSE tonight at the tailgate for the Hanna/Westside Game. Also they got a chance to hear the music and the scratchin of DJ Skillspinz. (He is bad to the bone.) Go to iTunes and checkout his music! Please pray that tomorrow that God will move in the hearts of the students who attend and hear about the love of Jesus. It is going to be crazy!

If you missed my first post about PULSE…check it out here. Here is the picture of all the stuff that we are going to be giving away for FREE…

Open Letter to the Students of NewLife Student Ministry Millbrook Baptist Church:

To all my awesome peeps who went on the INFERNO from Millbrook Baptist Church…you all rock! I have been praying that God would continue to work in your lives as you returned to Aiken. Each one of you adds something special to your group. I truly believe that God is already doing something within your group, and it is going to lead to something BIG! God has blessed you with a youth pastor that LOVES you all. I was able to sit and talk with Brandon many times, and each time, he expressed his passion for Jesus and for his students!

It’s my prayer that all of you will continue to live “the changed life” to all around you. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” When you accept Christ, you have crossed over from death to life…your eternal destination has changed…and your earthly life should reflect that. Live the changed life each and every day! Our lives should “tell the world that Jesus lives, tell the world that, tell the world that, tell the world that he died for them, tell the world that he lives again.” (Tell the World by Hillsong United)

Some of you maybe asking, “How do I keep Jesus first, as I live the changed live?” So in closing, here are a couple of things God placed on my heart to share with all of you. If you want to live out the changed life be sure to do these two things:

  • ASK FOR HELP
    • Ask for Help from JESUS: We must PRAY and ask Jesus for continued strngth and encouragement to live the changed life. Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
    • Ask for Help from OTHERS: We all need ACCOUNTABILITY in our lives. We need other people in our lives to encourage us and call us out when we are doing something stupid. Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
  • STAY CONNECTED
    • Stay Connected to JESUS: The best way to stay connected to Jesus is through HIS WORD, the Bible! We must read the Bible daily, allowing Him to speak to us through His love letter to us. There is so much wisdom, encouragement, strength, and instruction that we must seek out if we want to continue to keep Jesus first and live the changed life. Proverbs 7:2-3, “Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.”
    • Stay Connected to Others: We all need COMMUNITY/FELLOWSHIP. We need to join together on a regular basis to worship together, to pray together, to learn together, to just fellowship with each other. We need friendships with like minded people who are passionate about keeping Jesus first in their lives. Commit to an IN-GROUP, commit to INFINITY (btw, INFINITY kicks off August 22, 6:30-8:00…be there!) Acts 2:41-43, “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.”

If you do the things above: ask for help and stay connected…it will be easy to say, “BRING ON THE HEAT!” You all rock! I look forward to hearing about all that God is going to do through each and every one of you! Stay faithful, stay strong!
